Medicaid
Extensions
What
happens if I lose my Medicaid?
If your Medicaid ends because
your wages increase or because you receive more child support, you may
be able to keep your Medicaid for a period of time. This is called a Medicaid
extension.
Note: You can get an extension only if you were receiving AFDC -
Medicaid as a person who would have been eligible for an AFDC cash payment
before the AFDC program ended.
If you received AFDC-Medicaid
for three out of six months:
You must get a Medicaid extension
for 12 months if your case closed because of increased earnings from your
job or your spouse’s job. You or your spouse must keep working in order
to keep getting the Medicaid extension.
You must get a Medicaid extension
for 4 months if your Medicaid case closed because of an increase in child
support.
| When you report income from
wages to your caseworker that makes you ineligible for AFDC-Medicaid, you
may be eligible for a Medicaid extension. If this does not happen, talk
to your caseworker. If you are not satisfied, request a fair hearing. See
