MEDICAID
EXTENSIONS
What
is a Medicaid extension?
If
you received AFDC-Medicaid for three out of the last six months and it
ends because your wages increase or because you receive more child support,
you should continue to get Medicaid for some time. This is called a Medicaid
extension. You cannot get an extension if you were receiving Healthy Start
or some other type of Medicaid. Your income will not count during the extension.
You should
get a Medicaid extension for 12 months if your AFDC-Medicaid ended because
of increased earnings from your job and you keep working.
You may
get a Medicaid extension for 4 months if your AFDC-Medicaid ended because
of an increase in child support.
A pregnant
woman on Medicaid can continue to get Medicaid for 60 days after the baby’s
birth. Ask your caseworker if you are eligible for a Medicaid extension.
Can
I get another Medicaid extension once
I
have had one extension?
If
you lose your Medicaid extension because you no longer work, you may be
able to get another extension. To receive another extension you must have
received AFDC-Medicaid (not Healthy Start) for three out of the last six
months and lost that AFDC-Medicaid because of increased wages or child
support.
