For Milwaukee County Residents
|
What
is SeniorLAW?
SeniorLAW
is a program
which gives free benefits assistance to Milwaukee County residents 60
years
and older. The program is made up of Benefit Specialists who provide
information
and assistance and attorneys who provide representation in appropriate
court cases.
Our services
are free of charge. People who are helped by SeniorLAW may make
donations
towards the cost of their service. All donated funds will bc used to
help
the program grow. No one will be turned away or given less help simply
because he or she cannot make a donation.

Who
should ask for help
from
SeniorLAW? |
Milwaukee County residents over 60 who
- want to know more about their public benefits
- have been denied a benefit that they think they are entitled to receive
- have benefits which have been lowered or stopped
- have legal issues involving elder rights, consumer scams, or housing.
What can SeniorLAW
help you with?
SeniorLAW can
help
you if you are having problems with your public benefits such as
Medicare,
Medical Assistance, Long Term Care, Social Security, SSI, Food Stamps,
Subsidized Housing, or Homestead Credit.
If you have
applied
for benefit and have been denied, or if your benefits have been cut off
or reduced, the staff at SeniorLAW can talk to you about your case and
represent you where appropriate.
SeniorLAW can
also
provide you information about benefit programs, confusing health care
papers,
power of attorney forms, and changes in the laws that might affect
you.
We may be able to represent you in court in some cases involving
guardianship,
elder rights, housing, and consumer scams. There are some cases that
SeniorLAW
cannot handle. These cases include: criminal, traffic, wills, probate,
estate planning,
malpractice, personal injury, and cases where attorneys could collect a
fee from the opposing party.
How
can I contact SeniorLAW?
You can
contact
SeniorLAW by telephone or visit our office in person. SeniorLAW staff
will
make home visits for homebound persons.
When you
contact
SeniorLAW, you will talk with a Benefit Specialist. A Benefit
Specialist
is a person trained to advocate for senior-citizens in public benefit
areas.
Benefit Specialists are trained and supervised by attorneys. The
attorneys
may handle your case if it needs to go to court.
